We the citizens of Provo residing in the Indian Hills Neighborhood herewith submit this petition to restore the configuration of the corner of Cherokee Lane and Indian Hills Drive.

Whereas the original configuration was designed with all other roadways in the subdivision more than fifty years ago and was designed specifically to be the main entrance into the upper sections of the subdivision;

And whereas the neighborhood was designed without sidewalks, the roads were specifically made wider for the maximum safety for both walking and driving;

And whereas the children are not transported by bus to Rock Canyon School they walk primarily down Cherokee and on to Indian Hills Drive to get to and from school safely;

And whereas in winter the safest and best entrance into the hill was up Indian Hills and then making it up Cherokee, approaching at an angle so as not lose all speed;

and whereas the corner is the safest and easiest access to the neighborhood for emergency vehicles;

and

Whereas the new configuration was made without consulting the citizens of Provo who live in the neighborhood and drive the roads (note that you can hardly build a fence without a public hearing of affected neighbors);

and whereas the City Council members representing the neighborhood were apparently not consulted;

and whereas the new configuration not only changed to a sharp corner, it narrowed the road by a many feet on both sides, making it extremely dangerous to go to the right down the hill (especially in winter) and for snow plows, waste disposal vehicles, emergency vehicles (imaging a fire truck trying to make that turn--especially in winter!) to enter or exit the neighborhood;

and whereas children, cyclists, joggers, and old folks use that corner coming and going and will now find it narrower and not conducive to safely make the turn down the hill;

THEREFORE, we, the citizens of Indian Hills Neighborhood humbly petition our mayor and council to order the RESTORATION of the configuration before the winter snows come.
