A recent article Jan 29th 2012 mentioned that Mayor Rahm Emanuel stated that the Stone Temple Baptist church at 3620 W. Douglas should be considered for landmark status. The 90 year old church was tone of the only churches that would allow Dr. Martin L. King to speak on the westside. Other churches were afraid of the retaliation form the city and its mayor. Some even called Dr. King an agitator. In i996 the Southern Leadership Conference turned their attention to poverty and segregation in northern cities. The Victory Over Slums Moment was started to do so. African Americans where living in slums. But words spoken are just Idol noise, the city's Landmark Commission will consider a preliminary recommendation for landmark status at a meeting Feb. 4th 2016. " No greater LOVE that a MAN can give than his Life for his fellow MAN!" This is by right that the westside of Chicago and the city as a whole sign this petition to make this possible. The west side has the largest population of African Americans in Chicago in the Austin community, y factoring in the Lawndale and Garfield communities you have the largest population of African Americans in Illinois! The West Side Historical and Preservation Society is asking that you stand and deliver this petition to have a lasting monument of testiment to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We have began changing the historical look of the west side by placing the "Chieftain "statue of Dr. Martin L. King Jr. in front of the West Side Health Authorities building at Cicero and Chicago Ave. We need your help to get landmark status. Please share this on your Facebook and Twitter pages, Thank you for your consideration.
