ABIM Vote of No Confidence

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>The ABIM Leaders Should Step Down and Be Replaced Immediately</strong></span></p><p>1. After a massive firestorm, in Feb 2015 the ABIM stated it was "sorry" and "clearly got it wrong". &nbsp;Despite the intense scrutiny, ABIM governance has not changed meaningfully.</p><p>2. Former ABIM leaders Christine Cassel, Robert Wachter have massive financial conflicts of interest and have been involved in improper business dealings, some involving the Department of Justice.&nbsp;<a href="http://www.justice.gov/usao-ndil/pr/us-files-lawsuit-against-ipc-hospitalist-company-alleges-overbilling-federal-health">Dr. Wachter's involvement with IPC Healthcare, for example.</a>&nbsp;</p><p>There are data that suggest the ABIM has been involved in illegal political pandering via Washington DC lobby groups. &nbsp;There are published data that indicate ABIM MOC is ineffective and massively expensive to society. &nbsp;Dr. Rich Baron, has refused to address calls from the medical community to lower his bloated salary structure in the setting of his poor performance as an ABIM leader.</p><p>3. The lack of sound financial stewardship continues with the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/Philadelphia-PA/condo_type/71247066_zpid/13271_rid/1000000-3000000_price/3593-10780_mp/pricea_sort/40.199068,-74.67167,39.809854,-75.564309_rect/10_zm/?3col=true">one of the most expensive condos ever sold in Philadelphia history</a>&nbsp;to the ABIM as an "investment" for $2.3M, now listed at $1.7M.</p><p>4. The ABIM and the ABIM Foundation, continue to fuel its operations with overpriced &nbsp;testing fees from impoverished housestaff and fellows. &nbsp;The ABIM and the ABIM Foundation do not have any accountability to this disenfranchised population of future physicians. &nbsp;</p><p>5. The MOC testing fee schedule has outstripped inflation and is financially unjustifiable. &nbsp;The ABIM and the ABIM Foundation leaders and <a href="http://community.the-hospitalist.org/2015/06/29/the-abim-controversy-where-the-critics-are-right-where-theyre-wrong-and-why-i-feel-the-need-to-speak-out/">ex-leaders</a>&nbsp;continue to understate the wastefulness in its overpriced fee structure.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>After patiently waiting 12 months for meaningful reform, we, the undersigned have NO CONFIDENCE in the ABIM, the ABIM Foundation and its leaders. &nbsp;The leaders should step down and allow more ethical, more accountable, more fit physicians to rebuild this organization's reputation and status. &nbsp;</strong></p><p><strong>We would encourage any Local, State or Federal agency to fully vet the ABIM and the ABIM Foundation as it pertains to its activities with political lobbying, the transfer of funds, and any other statutory violation.</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p>
