The Westney Farm, built in 1856 and located at 1733 Westney Road North in Ajax was designated a Heritage Property in 1985. A company called "Quantum Falls" purchased the property in 2015, and Tribute Communities is now proposing 19 homes on the property.

The Westney family are considered pioneers to Ajax and Pickering and gave much to the community. William Westney was a Pickering Town Councillor, his son Henry was an Ajax Town Councillor. Henry's wife, Dorothy, was the founder of the Ajax/Pickering Hospital Auxilliary and started the largest chapter of Amnesty International in Canada.

The Region of Durham is also planning to remove two 200 old trees from the front of the house to make a bike path. These trees are probably the oldest existing trees in Ajax, and home to many birds.

Please lend your support and help us save this designated land.

email us at westneyheritage@gmail.com or follow us on Twitter @westneyheritage
