Over the past two years, Newburgh's current permanent City Manager, Michael Ciaravino, has made significant progress in restoring integrity and professionalism to Newburgh's City Hall. After decades of instability, the City is finally beginning to turn the corner, with a balanced budget that keeps taxes stable and critical new road, infrastructure and small business investments that are beginning to turn the City around.

Given the City Manager’s exceptional performance over the past two years, we request that the City Council formally rescind its vote taken on November 9th and cancel its search process for a new City Manager.

We believe that the Council’s vote was baseless, arbitrary and capricious. The Council’s actions are an irresponsible waste of tax payer resources and threaten to intentionally throw City Hall back into chaos and mismanagement. The Council’s actions also violate the City Charter by denying The City Manager due process to a public hearing and create the potential for litigation that can destabilize the City’s finances.

As concerned citizens and your constituents, we call upon all current and incoming City Council Members to immediately call off the search for a new City Manager in the interest of preserving stability and progress for the City of Newburgh.
