As citizens of the City Of Philadelphia, we support our officers in law enforcement who work hard to serve and protect the citizens of our city. Unfortunately there are elements that are attracted to law enforcement for all the wrong reasons, and according to the contract negotiated by The Fraternal Order Of Police, these elements are difficult, and even impossible to terminate from service. This has caused an undue FINANCIAL BURDEN ON ITS CITIZENS THAT HAVE TO PAY THE LAWSUITS FOR THE MISCONDUCT OF THESE INDIVIDUALS.

The city of Philadelphia has paid out more than $40 million in damages and settlements as a result of nearly 600 misconduct lawsuits brought against the police department since 2009, according to data provided by the cities under public records requests.

The numbers dwarf comparable statistics in other major cities for which MuckRock obtained the same data.

For example, the cities of Indianapolis, San Francisco, San Jose, and Austin settled or lost a combined 122 police misconduct cases - compared to 586 cases in Philadelphia

This petition is to unburden the taxpayers of our fair city by requiring police officers to have personal liability insurance for at least one half of the cost of a settlement, and requires the F.O.P to cover the other half of these millions of dollars in payouts.

THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE STANDS BEHIND EVERY OFFICER ON THE FORCE, they should be required to prove that support in dollars and cents in compensation for those officers deeds. Not the taxpayers of philadelphia.

We should hold our officers to the highest standards of honor, integrity, and service. This should insure that only quality candidates are chosen. The politicians in the offices of the mayor, city council, district attorney, and police commissioners offices refuse to change detrimental policies that negatively impact the citizens of our city. They are under the impression, and I must say correctly, that they can buy their way out of injustice, and they do it with money that could be better spent on our children, schools and public works. It is our money they are throwing away, cleaning up after the messes of bullies with badges that they hire, and protect. It is time to end this practice...

I need 250,000 signatures to submit to city council, help me help you..
