Proposal for the Maple Shade Township Train Station
To be presented to Maple Shade Township at
Town Meeting on August 25th 2016

Due to the recent damage and vandalism done to the Eagle Scout Project at the Maple Shade Train Station, I, Melissa Lemmerman (aka Missi) and David Smith Jr., along with: Troop and Pack 28 of Maple Shade, The Maple Shade Historical Society, And the People of Maple Shade, would like to propose an ordinance of “No Trespassing from 9pm to 6am” unless with the expressed permission of Maple Shade Township, The Maple Shade Historical Society or Troop and Pack 28.

On Thursday July 14th 2016, Troop 28 arrived for a meeting where they discovered damage to the Train Station and excessive trash at the Train Station. Police were called and an incident report was made. Incident # 16-11636 taken by officer #1066. After talking with different people, many have stated they see older kids/teens hanging out on the new deck. With the recent game, Pokemon Go, we found out that the Train Station is a game shop/store, know as a Pokestop. As most don't feel it is the game that is the reason for the vandalism, as most game players will only be there during the day light hours. A lot of people feel the game will be use as an excuse for the teens and vandals to be there, after hours and during the night hours. David Smith Jr. and Nelson Wiest are looking into adding security cameras to the area, but we are also looking into something to help prevent this before it happens again, not just after it occurs.

Some State Parks and Historical sites have an ordinance of “No Trespassing from Dusk till Dawn”, we would like to see something like this implemented at the Train Station. Due to the presence of the Boy Scouts holding meeting 10-11 months out of the year and almost every day of the week, we understand that a “Dusk till Dawn" may seem unfair to other people who will see us there, especially during the short daylight hours of the winter season, as most of the Boy Scout Meetings don't start till after dusk during these winter months. A “No Trespassing from 9pm to 6am” seems to be a more reasonable time during all months of the year. This can be implemented with fines and the possibility of jail time, after so many offenses, by the same person.

Thank You,

Melissa “Missi” Lemmerman, David Smith Jr, Troop & Pack 28, & Maple Shade Historical Society
