Community Support Petition

The Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts building, located in the historic district of Glenwood Springs, was victim of a serious flood on June 12, 2016. We have been displaced from our building, and the current structure needs much work. We are in the process of working with City Council to move to the vacant former library building on 9th and Blake in downtown Glenwood Springs. This is a very involved process and we need your help! It is necessary for us to move because of the flood displacement and the proposed construction/repair period that will seriously impede the administration and continuation of our education programs, art exhibitions and community events. Just as important, we can add so much life, culture and vibrancy to downtown during the bridge construction and after. In creating a new town, this is the missing element of success:

ARTS DOWNTOWN ARE NECESSARY! PLEASE HELP US!

Beyond the impact of the flood, we have drastically outgrown our historic building, and are very concerned about the negative impacts of the bridge construction on our education programs, art exhibitions and events. We make a difference. Between June 29 and July 6, 2016, we interfaced with over 11,000 people in 8 days! This was magnificent, given that in the past, we served 17,000 annually. We are now on track to serve 28,000 people this year. We are growing at a rapid rate, and providing much needed services to our community. We need a permanent home and immediate recovery assistance. If you would like to see the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts permanently relocated to the vacant former library building, you can help us by signing this petition of support. The more community members we have to support this much-needed change, the better.

We are YOUR Art Center. Please feel free to give us feedback about what programs you would like to see if we are granted this new community asset. We plan to collaborate with a variety of other arts-based nonprofits and senior programs to add a lift to our town’s arts’ vibrancy index, and make downtown Glenwood a true economic driver for our community as well as a place to gather and enjoy for locals and visitors alike.

This petition will be delivered at the upcoming city council meeting on Thursday July 21, 2016, at City Hall, 101 W. 8th Street, Glenwood Springs, Co 81601. The meeting begins at 6:00 pm in Council Chambers. We are listed on the agenda as a resolution and approval of a lease at the former library building. It is imperative that we have as many community members attend this meeting as possible.

For more information, contact our Executive Director,

Christina Brusig at Christina@glenwoodarts.org or call (970) 945-2414

Other Ways You Can Help

Write a letter of support to City Council, or call a member of City Council.
